April notes

Catherine Keebler has two pieces (wax on paper) in the Chicago Calligraphy Collective Exhibit  Exploration 2010 at the Newberry Library.  (60 W. Walton)  The show continues through May 28th; closed on Sundays.

Bad news for those of us who loved to get up close with the encaustic work that Melanie Cooper Gallery frequently exhibited, or who were fortunate to show their art there, or who aspired to show there.  Since March, the space is has become a yoga studio.  This is another loss in River North; Byron Roche closed his gallery space there a few months ago.

My piece Sierra High has an appointment with . . .  ArtChicago!  It will be displayed at the Chicago Sculpture International Booth (#12-264) in the Merchandise Mart, April 30 - May 3.   (Shucks, my midwestern reserve keeps me from posting the image again, but you can see it on the 2/3/09 post  )  This is indeed the piece that keeps on giving:  in February,  judge Lori Waxman gave it a first-place award at the National Premiere 2010 show in Elmhurst.  It's on my CAC gallery, with other wall sculptures, http://www.shelleygilchrist.com (website forwards temporarily  to CAC while under construction).

At our second show FUSED 2:  Art + Wax in Chicago in February, we had visitors from R&F Paints at our opening.  After working at the College Art Association book and trade fair all day, they honored us with their presence for much of the reception, and brought samples for all.  We were indeed pleased to meet them and put faces with names after many years.  Thanks for coming!
With Michele, Brenda and April are Darin Seim, Richard Frumess and Lorrie Fredette:

FYI:  We also had stealth visitors from Enkaustikos in Rochester; Kathryn Bevier and partner came and went quietly and managed to evade our cameras.
